About the event
Being in a college town is one of the great privileges of Mount Calvary Baptist Church. Banner Elk is home to Lees-McRae College, and our college ministry reaches students from both Lees-McRae and Appalachian State University in Boone.
Each Thursday night, volunteers from the church prepare a hearty dinner for the students. After the meal, everyone gathers for Bible study and worship together. It's a warm, welcoming time where students can grow in their faith, build lasting friendships, and find a church family while they're away from home.
On a typical Thursday night, fifty to sixty students fill the room — a mix of believers and seekers, locals and international students. The ministry also includes an "adopt a college student" program, where church families invite students into their homes for meals, study breaks, and encouragement throughout the semester.
