It has been our great privilege to serve at Mt. Calvary since August, 2001. Some people find it interesting that my family and I were members here for three years before I was called to be the pastor.
MY FAMILY: I met my beautiful bride, Debbie in 1979. We were married in 1982. She is a Registered Nurse and works full time with Appalachian Gastroenterology in Boone, NC. She is a great wife and serves in many capacities in the church. We have two boys and one girl and all of them are married. Matthew and his sweet wife, Lindsay live in Huntersville, NC and they are the parents to my first grandchild, Adah. (News flash… their 2nd child is on the way!) Zachary and his wonderful wife, Sheila, live in Steele Creek, NC and have a baby boy named Nolan. Nicole (Nikki) and her husband, Spencer, live in Wake Forest, NC. They are both just finishing their studies at the College at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and are preparing to be involved in starting a church… maybe in Europe.
HOBBIES and INTERESTS: I love to play golf and ride my motorcycle. I also serve as a volunteer fire fighter and chaplain with the fire service and local law enforcement. (Hence... the really cool Class A Dress Uniform in the picture!) Debbie and I love to spend time with our family and friends and we love to entertain people in our home.
EDUCATION: I graduated from Tennessee Temple University in 1982 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Pulpit Communications. (TTU has now merged with Piedmont International University in Winston Salem, NC.) I received my Master of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2009. I also received a certificate in Non-Profit Management form Duke University in the late 90's. (But I am an avid UNC Tarheel basketball and Georgia Bulldog football fan!)
MY PASSION: I love to tell people about Jesus and help Christians be more prepared to do the same. I believe God has gifted me to teach and preach His Word. I believe the most engaging way to share your faith is through the relationships God gives you. You can't turn people into projects... but you do need to be ready to give a reason for the hope that you have in Christ Jesus.
