It has been our great privilege to serve at Mt. Calvary since August, 2001. Some people find it interesting that my family and I were members here for three years before I was called to be the pastor.
MY FAMILY: I met my beautiful bride, Debbie, in 1979 and we were married in 1982. She is a Registered Nurse with a local gastroenterology practice in Boone. She loves to sing and helps lead worship on Sunday mornings as part of the worship team. We have two sons and a daughter, who are all married and have given us FIVE grandchildren!
HOBBIES and INTERESTS: I love to play golf, go hiking and camping. I also serve as a volunteer fire fighter and chaplain with the fire service and local law enforcement. (Hence... the really cool Class A Dress Uniform in the picture!) Debbie and I love to spend time with our family and friends and we love to entertain people in our home.
EDUCATION: I graduated from Tennessee Temple University in 1982 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Pulpit Communications. TTU has now merged with Carolina University (formerly Piedmont International University) in Winston Salem, NC. I received my Master of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2009. I also received a certificate in Non-Profit Management form Duke University in the late 90's. (But I am an avid UNC Tarheel basketball and Georgia Bulldog football fan!)
MY PASSION: I love to tell people about Jesus and help Christians be more prepared to do the same. I believe God has gifted me to teach and preach His Word. I believe the most engaging way to share your faith is through the relationships God gives you. You can't turn people into projects... but you do need to be ready to give a reason for the hope that you have in Christ Jesus.
